Itinerary
This walking tour of Amsterdam explores the city's history with a different approach. Discover what to see in Amsterdam, in a guided tour of about 2.5 hours with stories, anecdotes and a bit of humor.
Our journey begins at Beursplein, the bustling square right next to the historic Stock Exchange. From there, we’ll take a moment to admire the scale of Amsterdam Centraal. It was designed by Pierre Cuypers and opened back in 1889, and it’s still the city’s largest gateway, greeting every traveler with its stunning Neo-Renaissance architecture.
As we head into the older parts of the city, we’ll walk along Zeedijk. It’s one of Amsterdam’s original streets and serves as the gateway to the famous Red Light District. Right nearby is Nieuwmarkt, a lively square perched on the edge of Chinatown, where the city’s medieval history meets a vibrant, modern food scene.
We’ll then dive into the Jodenbuurt, or Jewish Quarter. This area is an absolute must-see, filled with layers of history and culture that are essential to understanding the city’s identity. Not far from here stands the Zuiderkerk, a beautiful Protestant church that was deeply connected to the life of the legendary painter Rembrandt.
Next, we’ll navigate toward Muntplein, a busy crossroads famous for its towering "Mint Tower" and the fragrant, floating flower market nearby. But just a short walk away, the atmosphere shifts completely as we step into the Begijnhof. It’s one of the oldest and most peaceful courtyards in Amsterdam—once you hear why it was founded and who lives there today, you’ll see it in a whole new light.
Finally, we’ll wrap things up at Dam Square. This is the literal heart of the city, and during our walk, you’ll find out exactly how it got its name and why so many of the city’s most monumental events have happened right on this very spot.
Get the most out of Amsterdam with a professional guide and learn about the origins of this fishing village on the banks of the Amstel River, which has grown into one of the most important and lively cities in Europe.
At the end of the tour, you will get to know the essence of Amsterdam and be able to find your way around the city.
